Programme content FAQs

Do I need to attend classes in London for this part-time MBA?

The ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Weekend MBA is taught over a long weekend approximately once a month. Friday and Saturday are typically full-day sessions, while Sunday is a morning session only.

What are the dates I need need to be on campus?

.

What work will I be expected to do between my on-campus classes?

During the time between teaching weekends you will be expected to complete preparatory work, strengthen your understanding, collaborate with your cohort on projects and deliver assignments. Typically this amounts to four hours of additional study for every one hour of teaching.

The biggest value of this time between teaching weekends is deploying your learnings from the programme to your professional environment – this allows you to refine key concepts for your employer or industry, and feedback on how it reflects the learnings you’ve gained.

What happens if I need to miss a weekend of classes due to personal circumstances?

It is compulsory to attend all on-campus weekends of teaching. In exceptional circumstances, you may be granted permission to miss classes. We ask that you inform the Programme Team and any module leaders of the classes you expect to miss in the first instance and the Programme Team will reach out to discuss the available options.

How is the programme structured over the two years of study?

Students will undertake their core modules in Year One; these are delivered in Block 1 and Block 2, each focusing on four-five modules, with assessments completed at the end of each Block.

In Year Two, students will undertake their elective modules; these are selected across the Spring, Summer and Autumn terms, with students typically taking between one-three electives per term. Project modules, international modules and the Capstone are all in Year Two. The Personal Leadership Journey runs throughout the duration of the programme.

Can I take Elective modules with students from other MBA programmes?

Elective options are shared across our range of MBAs, so you will have the opportunity to learn alongside the wider MBA community. This will allow you to connect with people from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds and build your professional network.

Can I participate in Global Experience Week in both years of the programme?

Unfortunately, not. Each student gets the opportunity to attend one Global Experience Week as part of their programme. Your first year focuses on core classroom-based modules and the Global Experience Week forms part of your second year, where you can start to specialise your MBA journey and apply your learning in real-world scenarios.

There are additional global travel opportunities available, including the Global Exchange, but these are optional and subject to availability.

What assessment methods are used for the Weekend MBA programme?

A variety of assessment methods are used across your MBA. These include, but are not limited to: quizzes, individual coursework assignments, group assignments, presentations and exams. Most exams take place in your first year of study and the majority of electives are assessed via coursework only.

Is it possible to balance an academic, professional and personal life whilst undertaking the programme?

Our Weekend MBA is a bespoke learning format designed for busy working professionals. We have an established alumni community of successful graduates who have found the balance across their academic, professional and personal lives. Each student will approach their part-time student experience in different ways to accommodate factors such as professional deadlines and priorities. We would recommend connecting with some of our MBA Student Ambassadors to understand how they have each approached this.

Are there any open days I can attend?

The Business School holds online information sessions throughout the year. These give you the opportunity to learn more about the programmes from the Programme Director, current students and alumni.

One of the things we are looking for is evidence of career progression, so make sure you highlight any promotions or increases in level of responsibility.

Admissions and entry requirements FAQs

What are the international entry requirements?

We accept a wide range of international qualifications for postgraduate study at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.

We review our requirements annually. Updates usually happen in September each year before the next academic year of entry.

If your country or region is not listed, please contact the relevant Admissions team for further information.

Do I need to submit Graduate Admissions Test results with my application?

GMAT / Executive Assessment / GRE is not required for admission to this programme.

However, if you have already sat or intend to take GMAT (old or new test), Executive Assessment or GRE, you are welcome to submit your results. This may add weight to your application, particularly if you feel your degree does not reflect your academic potential.

How do I submit my official Graduate Admissions Test results?

To submit a GMAT or Executive Assessment score, you must request for it to be shared with ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Business School online using the code S22-7S-16. Please note that you do not need to send a hard copy unless requested.

To submit a GRE score, you must request for it to be shared with ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Business School online using the code 0121.

How long will you accept the old GMAT Exam results for?

GMAT Exam scores will remain valid for five years from your appointment date.

When will I receive a decision on my application?

We have a series of admissions rounds throughout the year. For more details about application and decision deadlines please refer to our key dates and deadlines above.

My application has been unsuccessful; can I have some feedback?

Please email the Recruitment & Admissions team if you would like feedback on your application. Please note that whilst limited feedback can be provided, the decision of the academic selectors is final. It will not be possible for your application to be reconsidered.

Can I defer my offer?

You may request to defer your place for one academic year by writing to the Recruitment & Admissions team.

Deferrals are considered on a case-by-case basis and in order to be considered for a deferral, payment of the tuition fees deposit is required. Where possible, requests to defer should be submitted no later than three months before the programme start date.

Please be aware, if you defer your place your tuition fees and deposit amount may differ from the year you applied in and any scholarships granted cannot be carried over.

As an international student, what type of UK visa will I need to join this part-time MBA programme in London?

If you are coming to ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ for a short period of study, and you do not already hold immigration permission that allows you to study the in-person requirements of the course, then you may need to enter the UK under the Standard Visitor route.

The Standard Visitor route allows students to come to the UK for a period of up to six months in order to undertake a short course of study. If you are offered a place on the programme, our team will provide all the relevant visa information and guide you through the process. Additional information can be found on our Visas and Immigration page.

Can I apply for a Student Visa to complete this programme?

Students on this programme do not qualify for sponsorship under a Student Visa, as it is designed for professionals who are already working in some capacity. All international students taking this programme will have to undertake any face-to-face elements on visitor permission (unless they already hold some other form of permission to be in the UK).

Fees and funding FAQs

Can I pay in instalments?

Self-funded students have the option to pay their fees in instalments. You will be told about this option when you respond to your offer. For further information about the instalment plan, please contact our Tuition Fees team.

I’d like more information regarding the Careers and Professional Development (CPD) loan, who should I contact?

Please contact the Tuition Fees team with any queries you have regarding the CPD Loan.

Who do I contact if I have questions regarding my deposit/tuition fee invoice?

Please contact the Tuition Fees team with any queries regarding your deposit or tuition fee invoice.

What information do I need to provide to ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ if I am being sponsored by my company?

You will need to provide us with an original, dated and authorised letter that confirms the following:

  • your name and College Identifier Number
  • the full name and entry year of the programme for which you have been offered a place
  • the amount of fees which will be paid by your sponsor
  • the full name and address to which the invoice should be sent
  • any Purchase Order number required for payment to be effected
  • confirmation that the fees will be sent directly to ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ

You will need to email a copy of this letter to tuition.fees@imperial.ac.uk copying business.school@imperial.ac.uk into the email. Please note that until your sponsorship award has been formally confirmed by your sponsoring organisation and accepted by ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, your tuition fees will remain your financial responsibility.

I am being fully sponsored; do I still need to make a deposit payment?

You will be responsible for paying the deposit until we receive a sponsorship letter that confirms that you are being sponsored for 100% of the tuition fee payment, and this has been reviewed and approved by the Tuition Fees team. If you do not pay the deposit within the deadline you risk losing your place.

If you pay the deposit before we receive the sponsorship letter confirming full funding, you will be entitled to a refund for the amount you have paid.

My company is offering a tuition fee reimbursement scheme, how does this work?

If your company is paying the fees directly to you for you to make payment to us, then the agreement is between you and your company, not you and ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. We do not need to receive a sponsorship letter from you.

My company is offering a salary sacrifice scheme, how does this work?

This will be an agreement between you and your company. We do not need to receive a sponsorship letter from you.

Can I still apply for scholarships if I am being sponsored by my company?

Yes. Scholarships are awarded as a reduction to your tuition fees so you can still be considered for a scholarship if you are being sponsored by your company.
