Core content

Core modules

Applied Corporate Finance

This module will cover the application of financial decision-making at a corporate level. You will gain an overview of corporate investment policy and company valuation, financing decisions and capital structure, external financing at different stages of a firm’s life cycle and recent innovations in corporate finance.

Financial and Managerial Accounting

This module is split into two parts: first you will focus on managerial accounting and financial analysis used for internal decision-making. You will learn to select and apply models and techniques using accounting data to support management decisions.

In the second part of the module, you will cover financial accounting and reporting, focusing on the annual report used for external audiences. You will learn the language of accounting, read as well as analyse the major financial statements in the annual reports, and develop an opinion about an organisation’s financial performance, position and potential.

Marketing Management

In this module you will explore fundamental topics in contemporary marketing. You will learn how a company can identify, target, connect with and serve its customers better than its competitors over time.

You will gain an understanding of the role marketing plays in the value creation process. Topics will include organisational decisions such as marketing strategy, segmentation and marketing mix allocations. The module will explore the critically important topic of human elements in the marketplace, including consumer behaviour. You will engage in managerial decision-making situations and explore topics of central interest to successful enterprises today. These include ethical marketing (relating to the "E" and the "S" in ESG) and the adoption of innovations and digital tools and techniques in the field of marketing.

Organisations and Leadership

Organisations and Leadership is a learning journey designed to support your development as a leader. The focus is to develop your understanding of modern organisations and the tools you will need to contribute effectively in them. Much of your success as leaders, managers and professionals will depend on how well you work with and get things done through others. The organisations best prepared to succeed in the competitive global marketplace are those that engender full participation and promote teamwork through enabling leadership. This module applies both theoretical and applied approaches to understanding effective leadership within a team and features a substantial amount of class discussion and experiential exercises, including an off-site team community build.

Strategic Decisions and Analysis

Strategic Decisions and Analysis will teach you analytical, statistical and strategic decision-making skills, blending behavioural science with practical applications in daily life, business and organisations. You will learn to navigate decision biases, harness diversity, manage uncertainty through decision-tree analysis, seize contrarian opportunities, discern skill from luck using big data analysis, design better organisations using machine learning and predictive analytics and implement nudges through field experiments. The curriculum merges theoretical principles with case studies, cutting-edge research, data analysis and an individual capstone project, ensuring a thorough understanding and practical application.

Strategic Management

Strategic Management is concerned with enhancing the performance of a firm to create value for shareholders. This module will explore the core elements of corporate, competitive and global strategy. Successful strategies today need to embrace stakeholder concerns, including those related to ESG and digital innovation. You will engage with cases that require you to make strategic choices and explore the consequences, for example the allocation of resources and opportunity cost trade-offs. You will learn how companies frame strategic choices, how they seek to assess first-mover vs. follower pathways, assess market potential, pursue mergers and acquisitions and embrace disruptive economic models in the pursuit of competitive advantage.

Business Economics

The performance of any business is heavily influenced by the market environment in which it operates. Through this module, you will develop the framework and tools needed to explain how market conditions are determined and why the business environment changes over time. You will develop an understanding of economic principles and the ability to apply economic analysis to problems related to business strategy and managerial decision-making. The module focuses mainly on microeconomic behaviour. Topics include demand and supply, the behaviour of firms and consumers, strategic pricing issues, sources and consequences of market failure and government policy initiatives.

Innovation Management

Innovation is the fundamental driver of competitiveness and plays a large part in improving quality of life. This module equips you with an understanding of the main issues in the management of innovation and an appreciation of the relevant skills needed to manage innovation at both strategic and operational levels.

Global modules are electives that aim to deepen your understanding of key themes within a global context. These modules have an application process and require you to pay additional costs. Module themes and destinations may change on an annual basis, and are subject to availability.

Global Business Challenge (Entrepreneurship or Social Impact)

This learning experience is designed for you to work as consultants on a business challenge in an emerging market context. You will apply innovative thinking and problem solving techniques to achieve real commercial, social or economic impact. You will travel to the country where your client is based and deliver the project over an intensive one-week period.

The module will allow you to deploy your interdisciplinary expertise in business strategy, entrepreneurship, innovation, marketing, finance and other areas, as well as your consulting skills to analyse the issue at hand, collect evidence and generate recommendations. You will also learn about working in an economic and cultural context that may be unfamiliar to you.

The module is practical, aimed at generating an output that can make a real difference to the local business and economy. You are encouraged to organise yourselves within groups and act independently to set goals, gather evidence, make contacts and generate conclusions and recommendations.

Global Immersion

This optional, one-week trip will consist of a number of visits to different companies across a range of industries, as well as social and cultural activities. You will learn first-hand about the social and cultural dynamics of business in another country and travel with students from other programmes across the Business School, offering excellent networking opportunities.

Global Exchange

The optional Global Exchange programme allows you to increase your international exposure and build your network by taking advantage of specialised electives at one of our partner schools.

Extended Global Exchange

You can choose to extend your Master's programme to 16 months and take the opportunity to study abroad for a term with the Extended Global Exchange option. You can access a variety of additional electives with our partner institutions, increasing your international exposure and enhancing your employability through a diversified study experience.

Applied learning

Applied learning

Our integrative modules give you the opportunity to apply practical, analytical and problem-solving skills gained on the programme to real business situations. This experience is vital in boosting your confidence and employability within the field.

In May you will take both the Entrepreneurship module and the Sustainable Business Simulation. In July you will choose to do either the Consulting Project, Case Study, Work Placement or Extended Work Placement.

Entrepreneurship

This applied module offers an introduction to the essentials of new venture formation and entrepreneurship. The focus is practical and hands-on, underpinned by theory and academic research. The practical part of the module prepares you for developing and testing business ideas.

Sustainable Business Simulation

The Sustainable Business Simulation provides an opportunity for you to integrate and apply the knowledge and skills gained on the programme through an immersive team-based simulation experience based on "Conscious Capitalism". You will be exposed to decision-making scenarios that require you to make rapid and effective decisions on how to maximise profits, while also considering societal impact trade-offs in a competitive marketplace.

Consulting Project

The Consulting Project is a group-based project undertaken for a real client. It gives you the opportunity to apply the programme material to solve a real business problem, gaining valuable consulting experience.

Case Study

The Case Study module aims to contribute to the development of your managerial potential by applying problem-solving techniques to a complex and challenging business problem. The emphasis is on developing skills in addressing a real business case study, drawing on the knowledge and skills achieved in the rest of the programme.

Work Placement

The Work Placement aims to support your development by enabling you to work in a real company for four to six weeks providing you with the opportunity to apply the material of the programme to a challenging business situation in which you are fully immersed. The Work Placement is a fantastic opportunity to build your professional network and gain real workplace insights. You can enhance your future career prospects while supporting your professional development in a sector of interest.

You are responsible for sourcing your own work placement, which needs to be approved in advance by the Academic Director. This should be for one month or longer and can be held at a UK-based or international company or organisation.

Extended Work Placement

The Extended Work Placement enables you to access additional work placement opportunities, including longer summer internships in the UK and worldwide. You will work for four to six months in a company or organisation, gaining deeper work experience credentials and boosting your marketability with potential future employers.

Employers in Europe often view internships as a critical step in the hiring process, and by participating in longer internships, you can demonstrate your commitment and capabilities, making you a more attractive candidate for future roles. What we look for

If you are ambitious and want to develop skills in responsible leadership and entrepreneurial problem-solving, the MSc in Management (MiM) could be a good fit for you. Our programme is designed for students from all academic backgrounds who want to gain a firm understanding of core business and management concepts, and who aspire to work and lead in various fields, including finance, consulting and innovation.

We're looking for confident, well-rounded, motivated candidates with a clear career plan. Tell us about:

  • Your hobbies and interests: this could include being an active member of a society at university, or spending time volunteering or raising money for a cause that means a lot to you.
  • International experience: this could be through studying abroad, volunteering or travel.
  • Additional languages: for many of you, English is already an additional language and it isn't uncommon for our students to be fluent in four or five languages, which can increase your employability.
  • Positive impact or achievement: this could be through representing a region or country at sports, mentoring young people or making changes to your university experiences through student leadership.
  • Career goals after graduating: you will be entering a highly competitive recruitment market and we want to see that you have already thought about the skills and experience you are going to need to succeed in your target organisation and role.
Application process

We have provided a step-by-step walkthrough on how to apply for the MSc in Management (MiM) programme, with comprehensive instructions to ensure you complete your application successfully and meet all the essential admissions requirements.

Step one: start your application online

Visit the application portal and create an account by completing your personal details. Our online application form gives you the flexibility to save your progress and complete your application in your own time.

Step two: submit your supporting documents

You will need the following:

  • current CV (view for guidance);
  • personal statement questions (see blog for tips on how to write a personal statement);
  • complete degree transcripts with English translation if necessary (view international entry requirements);
  • contact details of two academic referees or one academic and one professional referee including their company/business email address. We recommend that one should be your current line manager or academic supervisor;
  • career planning questions, a quantitative experience statement and programming/computer software experience (if applicable);
  • English language scores if required (i.e. TOEFL, IELTS etc.);
  • GMAT/GRE is not a mandatory requirement, however, it can enhance the strength of your application.
Step three: complete your application

Once you have submitted your supporting documents you can complete your application with the £125 application processing fee. Once your application has been submitted your referees will receive a notification to provide your reference.

The Business School has a zero-tolerance policy on fraudulent applications, and we will report findings to the Home Office.

Step four: interview and admissions decision
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete an interview using our online video platform. This is the best opportunity for you to demonstrate your passion and drive, and why you want to study a Master's at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.
  • AI/Chat GPT guidance: The purpose of the interview is to get to know more about you. We want to see how you approach problems, your motivations and wider interests. If we identify malpractice or answers provided are not genuine then this may factor negatively in the admissions committee decision. Read our blog for more advice on how you can use AI responsibly in your application.
  • Application decisions will be communicated by the corresponding decision date for the round in which you applied. Please refer to our key dates and deadlines for more information on timeframes.
  • All students will undergo a Qualification Check to ensure they meet the necessary requirements.
Step five: submit outstanding documents and pay your deposit

As part of this process, you must verify your degree award through the online Qualification Check service, using a unique link provided in your offer conditions. Admissions and entry requirements FAQs

Why do I need to complete a Quantitative Experience Statement?

All of our programmes are academically rigorous and include a quantitative component. Therefore, all candidates are expected to have a basic level of mathematics before the start of the programme. The Quantitative Experience Statement provides an opportunity to demonstrate this to the selection committee.

In the Quantitative Experience Statement, you need to list up to five of the most quantitative modules or elements of your studies to date. You should detail:

  • the main topics of study (e.g. algebra, probability etc.);
  • the level of study (e.g. high school, undergraduate degree, short course etc.).

This will allow the selection committee to have an understanding of your quantitative experience.

Please check the entry requirements for your programme of interest to ensure your background is sufficiently quantitative. For other programmes, candidates are advised to review the programme content and the pre-study modules. You should check what the numerical content of the programme includes before you apply.

How do I submit my qualifications to be verified?

To submit a verification request, you must first create an online account with Qualification Check. You should use the unique link provided to you as part of your offer conditions.

Once you have completed the two-step registration process, you will have access to your online account. Search for the name of the institution at which you obtained your qualification(s).

Then, follow the steps to enter the required information for submission of a verification request. Your details will then be sent to that institution to be authenticated by the appropriate department. Find out more information at .

What happens after I submit a request for my qualifications to be verified?

Qualification Check’s standard procedure is to contact the primary source of the information. This is the institution at which you studied. Qualification Check will regularly contact the relevant department at the institution to confirm the authenticity of your qualifications.

We understand that applications are urgent and Qualification Check makes every effort to accommodate your needs and expedite processes. Some institutions may take longer than others. But rest assured that Qualification Check is working hard to complete your verification. Find out more information at .

How many programmes can I be considered for each year?

You can apply to be considered for one programme each year. If your application is unsuccessful we will take your areas of interest and eligibility into account when considering you for alternative programmes.

When will my referees be asked to provide a reference?

As part of your application, you will be asked to provide the contact details of two referees. Your referees will be contacted by email once you have completed and submitted your application. The email will contain instructions on how they can submit your reference via our application system.

Please ensure that each reference letter that is submitted has been sent from an academic or professional email address. We cannot accept references sent from personal email addresses, such as Gmail, Hotmail, 126, 163, Sina, QQ or Yahoo.

I’ve received an email confirming that my referees have submitted my references, but this isn’t yet confirmed on my account?

Our electronic application service is provided by an external provider. Therefore, there may be a delay before the receipt of your references is confirmed on your student application account.

If you receive confirmation that your references have been received but this still isn't confirmed on your account a week after receiving the confirmation, please contact the Recruitment & Admissions team.

Will my decision date be affected by a delay in the approval of my references or missing documentation?

If you submit a complete application by the deadline, you will receive an outcome by the corresponding decision deadline. However, we may be unable to guarantee a decision by the deadline if:

  • there are delays in receiving your references;
  • the documentation required to progress your application is missing.

If the requested information is not received within five working days, we may be unable to guarantee a decision by the round deadline.

If you have received confirmation that your references have been submitted but this is not reflected in your account after a week, please contact the Recruitment & Admissions team.

Will I be invited to interview?

Yes. As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates for our MSc programmes will be invited to an interview. Interviews are conducted through our video interview platform. You can access it online to record and submit your answers.

The interview process typically takes about 20 minutes and does not require extensive preparation. It aims to supplement your written application and help you convey your suitability for your chosen Master’s by answering questions about your previous experience and future aspirations.

AI/Chat GPT guidance:

The purpose of the interview is to get to know more about you. We want to see how you approach problems, your motivations and wider interests.

If we identify malpractice or that answers provided are not genuine, then this may factor negatively into the admissions committee decision.

We have a blog you can read for more advice on how you can use AI responsibly in your application.

When will I receive a decision on my application?

We operate a staged admissions process with several deadlines throughout the year. If you submit your application within an admissions round you can usually expect a decision by the published decision deadline for that round. For more information please see 'Key dates and deadlines' table.

Please keep in mind that during busy times and/or where documents are missing from an application, this may take longer.

Why is my offer subject to checks by Central Admissions?

When an offer is submitted by the Business School, the Central Admissions team needs to make a number of final checks before it can be formally approved. These may include:

  • an additional review of an applicant's academic background;
  • ensuring the references we have received are valid.

Until you have received confirmation of the official offer via ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's applicant portal, please do not:

  • arrange accommodation;
  • book flights;
  • decline any other offers you may be holding.

The majority of offers are successfully approved by Central Admissions. You will be able to see full details of your offer conditions once your official offer has been confirmed.

I’ve been put on a waiting list, when will I receive a final decision?

Unfortunately, we are unable to confirm when you will receive a decision on your application. We will be in touch via email as soon as there is an update. You do not need to provide any additional information unless you think it will add significant weight to your application. For example, updated transcripts, relevant internships or English language results.

My application has been unsuccessful; can I have some feedback?

Please email your programme Recruitment & Admissions team if you would like feedback on your application. Please note that whilst limited feedback can be provided, the decision of the academic selectors is final and it will not be possible for your application to be reconsidered.

Can I defer my place to next year?

If you receive an offer you can request to defer it to the following year. Requests will be considered until 23 June 2027.

Requests submitted after 23 June will only be approved in exceptional circumstances.

Please note deferrals are considered on a case-by-case basis and in order to be considered for a deferral you will need to pay the tuition fees deposit.

If you already paid your deposit for the current admissions cycle, this will be carried over to your new offer. However, our tuition fees do increase each year and you will be required to make up the difference between the old deposit and the new deposit amount.

Please note that you can only defer once.

Can you advise me on my eligibility?

We are unable to assess your eligibility before you apply. The academic selection committee needs to review a full application before any decision can be made.

Please check the specific entry requirements of the programme you are interested in studying. Please also check our international entry requirements. If you feel you meet our entry requirements you can apply online.

In addition to the guidance on our website, we hold regular information sessions online and on campus throughout the year. Here, we would be happy to discuss your suitability in more detail.

What are the international entry requirements?

We accept a wide range of international qualifications for postgraduate study at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.

We've provided general guidance in the country and region index so you can understand how qualifications awarded by public institutions overseas may satisfy our minimum academic admission requirements.

We review our requirements annually. Updates usually happen in September each year before the next academic year of entry.

If your country or region is not listed, please contact the relevant Admissions team for further information.

I don't meet the academic entry requirement but I have some work experience, will I be considered?

Most MSc programmes require at least an Upper Second Class Honours degree (or international equivalent). Work experience can add weight to an application. However, this would not replace the academic requirement, no matter how extensive the experience is. The exceptions to this are:

Please refer to the programme’s entry requirements for more detailed information.

Does the Business School offer pre-sessional English?

The Business School does not offer pre-sessional English courses. We do not accept attendance of a pre-sessional English course as a means of meeting the English language requirement.

I require a visa to study in the UK, when will I receive my CAS?

We will start to issue CAS numbers from April. The details of your CAS will appear on your My ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ record after you have met all the conditions of your offer. Please note that you will need to upload a scanned copy of the photo page of your passport and current visa (if you have recently completed a degree in the UK), before your CAS can be issued. Please upload these documents to the ‘Passport/visa’ section of your My ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ account.

Once your CAS is ready, you will receive an email confirming that it has been uploaded onto your My ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ account. If you log into My ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ you will be able to find your CAS number and the details that have been included in your CAS.

Please note that we cannot provide you with a CAS if you have outstanding conditions on your offer. Please ensure that you allow enough time to meet your conditions and apply for a visa before the start date of your programme of study.

What do I need for my visa appointment?

Your CAS number holds information about the programme you will study and if you have paid any fees. You will not need a formal letter from ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ confirming your offer status for your visa appointment.

For more information about what you will need, see the .

If you need any advice about your visa please contact the International Student Support team. Most information can be found on the International Student Support website.

How do I extend my visa to undertake an Extended Work Placement or Global Exchange?

If you require a visa to study on the programme, you will be initially granted a 12 month student visa upon entry (with an additional four months post study). If you decided to extend the programme to 16 months, you will be eligible to apply for a student visa extension (please note additional costs apply). This would enable you to apply for the Graduate Worker Visa once your degree is confirmed.
