Admissions and entry requirements FAQs

When do applications open for this course?

The application timetable for 2027 entry applications can be found on the UCAS website on .

When do applications close for this course?

Wednesday 13 January 2027 at 18.00 (UK time). You can register for updates on the process by signing up to our mailing list.

Are there any GCSE requirements for this course?

There are no specific GCSE requirements for this course. However, we may consider your GCSE grades when assessing your application and will review these alongside other areas. You should not be put off if you do not have strong GCSE grades; excelling in your A Levels / equivalents is the more important area in terms of achievement.

If you have extenuating circumstances related to your GCSE results (or more recent qualifications) your referee can outline this in their reference.

If you are relying on your GCSE English Language to meet ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's English requirements, you will need to have achieved a grade B / grade 6, or else meet these requirements through another accepted test or qualification.

What are the international entry requirements?

We accept a wide range of qualifications for entry to undergraduate study at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.

You can find full details of the international entry requirements for this course online.

If your qualification is not included, it might not be accepted for entry. You can contact the Recruitment & Admissions team to check.

My country is not represented in the international requirements. Am I eligible?

We welcome students from all over the world and ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ has a standard system for converting different country systems into A-level equivalents. You can find details online.

If your qualification system or country is not listed, it may be that we would require you to complete qualifications from another system, such as Advanced Placements, however you can contact us and we can review your specific query.

Do I need an economics, finance or computer science background to apply?

No. The only subject specific requirement is Mathematics.

We will teach you all the economics, finance and data science that you need to know to be successful on our degree - we assume there's no prior ability in any of these subject areas when you start our degree.

However, in the application process, we do expect you to demonstrate your knowledge and interest, and curiosity about the integration of our three subjects.

From how far back will you accept my IELTS scores?

³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ considers IELTS scores to be valid for two years. Scores must be valid at the beginning of your studies at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ if your application is successful.

Is there any difference between the October UCAS deadline and the January deadline?

There are no advantages to applying by the October deadline, used by Oxford and Cambridge, over the January deadline. All applications received by the January deadline will be considered equally. However, we do not consider late applications received after the January deadline.

Please note, whenever you choose to submit your UCAS application, it is still a requirement that you register for and sit the TMUA test, ideally in October.

If I get an A* in Further Mathematics but an A in Mathematics, can I get in?

Our minimum requirement is that you get an A* in Mathematics. Further Mathematics is not a substitute for this. Applicants who do not meet their offer conditions will enter a reconsideration process, but acceptance here is dependent on many factors and is not guaranteed.

What is the TMUA maths test?

The Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA) tests your mathematical thinking and reasoning skills.

The TMUA lasts 2 hours 30 minutes in total. It is divided into two parts: Applications of Mathematical Knowledge, and Mathematical Reasoning. You will not be able to use a calculator or dictionary. There is no pass or fail for TMUA. You should aim to do the best you can. Your final scores are based on the number of correct answers you give. You do not lose marks for wrong answers, so it’s worth attempting all questions.

Your prior maths knowledge will be useful, but there may be areas which are less familiar to you depending on your experience. Revise what you have learned so far and familiarise yourself with the test content, including practice tests, on the provider's website.

Find out more about the test

How do I register for the TMUA maths test?

You take the TMUA within a test centre.

You can choose from a global network of test centres in more than 5,500 locations in over 180 countries.

Visit the website, where you will be able to:

  • create an account
  • find your nearest test centre
  • book and pay for the test
Are the minimum grade requirements different for students from a widening participation background?

If you meet ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's criteria for widening participation applicants, you will get an automatic invitation to interview if you have predicted grades of AAA including an A in Mathematics at A-level or equivalent, and have a competitive TMUA score.

We do not have a cut-off for the TMUA score, we view this as one aspect of your application and will holistically review all aspects of your application.

The interview will be used to discuss your motivation for our degree and to find out more about your potential to enjoy and succeed on our degree. If your application is successful, any conditions contained in a potential offer will be determined following the interview.

Whilst the requirements to be shortlisted for interview are lowered, any potential offer may still be at our standard level of A* Maths and two other A grades for A Levels (or equivalent).

Fees and funding

We know that choosing to pursue an undergraduate programme is an important decision, and a substantial investment in yourself. In addition to the costs of tuition, you should also consider the costs of living in London during your studies and the lifestyle choices that will determine your costs.

Many of the students on our undergraduate programmes fund their studies through multiple sources, combining personal resources with education loans and scholarships.

Home tuition fees

In England and Wales, the UK government sets the maximum tuition fee (known as a 'fee cap') chargeable by universities for Home students. ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s Home fees for undergraduate courses starting in 2027 will align with this cap, which means that, subject to parliamentary approval, they are expected to be £10,050.

Fees and funding FAQs

What do my fees cover?

Your fees cover the full cost of your tuition for the year. When planning your finances you should also consider the additional unavoidable costs that your fees do not cover, including:

  • cost of accommodation, travel and living expenses in London;
  • core reading texts, supplementary texts and study materials;
  • contributions towards travel costs of any core programme trips or activities.

Other costs will depend on your lifestyle choices, hobbies and interests, and will include:

  • costs incurred as part of optional internships, exchanges or trips;
  • membership of one of our Careers Clubs, charged at £10 per club for the year.
How do I know which fee I pay?

Whether you pay the Home or Overseas fee depends on your fee status. This is assessed based on UK Government legislation and includes things like where you live and your nationality or residency status. Find out how we assess your fee status.

What funding is available?

If you're a Home student, you can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan from the UK government to cover the entire cost of tuition for every year of your programme.

You can also apply for a means-tested Maintenance Loan to help towards your living costs.

Will these fees increase?

The fees shown relate to the year of entry advertised only. You should expect and budget for your fees to increase each year. Find out more about our tuition fees payment terms, including how inflationary increases are applied to your tuition fees in subsequent years of study.
