You will be prepared to use analytical and data-driven approaches to make informed management decisions.

Deep Learning and Generative AI

The module provides a self-contained overview of deep learning and generative AI. The contents of the module consist of two parts. In the first part you will study the general framework of loss function-based machine learning as the cornerstone of all the modern deep learning models. You will connect the training of a machine learning model with optimisation algorithms of gradient descent and stochastic gradient descent. You will understand how the framework covers both the simple linear regression model and the complex neural network model as special cases, and discuss the specific training algorithms for fully-connected and convolutional neural networks.

In the second part you will focus on understanding the generative AI models (such as large language models and multi-modal large language models) as machine learning models and showcase the state-of-the-art applications of these models on search, coding, text processing, etc. In particular, you will understand how the generative AI model platforms such as ChatGPT and Claude can be used for interactive data analytics and business analytics.

Fundamentals of Database Technologies

This module introduces you to practical usage of databases with the main emphasis on SQL and related technologies. As big data problems are increasingly prevalent for business, this module introduces basics of their processing with Apache Spark – a versatile, big data processing engine. This module will use PostgreSQL, one of the most popular and powerful object-relational database management systems.

Machine Learning

This module will teach you fundamentals of machine learning. It will focus on the most important concepts and algorithms, and review their practical use to solve real world problems. The goal of the module is to enable you to be data-savvy, analytically minded, and coding-literate problem solvers.

Maths & Statistics Foundations for Analytics

This rigorous module will teach you concepts of probability, statistics and linear algebra. You will learn to summarise and analyse data using statistical concepts and understand linear algebra to represent and manipulate data. This will ensure that you build a solid foundation of the mathematical concepts necessary to succeed on the programme. This module will also serve as an introduction to R.

Optimisation and Decision Models

Optimisation plays a key role in statistical, machine learning and business operational models. This module trains students on the fundamental optimisation tools available to the modeller and business analyst. You will obtain hands-on experience with the key modelling (AIMMS, GAMS, AMPL) and optimisation (CPLEX, GUROBI) software packages.

Statistics and Econometrics

This module covers the statistical tools needed to analyse data in economics and management. It focuses on parameter estimation and hypothesis testing within the framework of the classical linear regression model. Advanced topics include panel data methods and binary dependent variable models will also be discussed. Considerable attention is devoted to applications of the techniques in practice.

Personalisation

Personalisation

You will choose six electives that will allow you to develop domain expertise in the areas of your interest and broaden your understanding of how to solve business problems.

Adaptive AI: Learning-Powered Decision Making in Practice

How do AI systems make adaptive, learning-powered decisions in domains from personalised health apps to digital platforms and large language models? This module introduces methods for adaptive, learning-powered decision making, starting with experimentation and bandits, and building toward reinforcement learning and learning from human feedback.

You will explore applications including refugee assistance, recommendation systems, online advertising, content moderation and large-scale AI like LLMs. Emphasising intuition and implementation, the module features guided coding assignments, where you extend provided code while tackling realistic challenges, and concludes with a final exam. By the end of the module, you will be able to design, evaluate and deploy adaptive AI systems in practical contexts.

Advanced Machine Learning

This elective aims to teach you basic analytics skills and methodologies for large-scale data analysis. It will focus on the practical use of these skills and methodologies to solve real world problems. You will cover a wide spectrum of technologies and algorithms in machine learning.

Analytics for Digital Marketing and Platforms

This module explores the quantitative mechanics of digital platforms, focusing on how data, algorithms and advanced experimentation drive modern marketing strategy. You will bridge data-driven frameworks with industry case studies to evaluate how platform interventions influence customer behaviour and broader marketplace dynamics. Ultimately, the module equips you with the analytical expertise needed to optimise decision-making and drive sustainable growth in the digital economy.

Building AI-Accelerated Startups

This is a hands-on, experiential, group-based module on how to rapidly build a startup using AI as an accelerant for finding a repeatable and scalable business model. You will learn that a startup is not just the product, it is the sum of all parts of a business model.

Each week you will get out of the classroom to talk to over 10 customers to test their hypotheses about each part of the business model – customer acquisition, channel, pricing, costs, resources and partners. In addition, you will build Minimal Viable Products (MVPs) to test the model and product/market fit. As part of your class project, you will use multiple AI tools to replace what previously would have taken a large development team.

Causal Modelling for Business Analytics

The goal of this module is to introduce students to the basic tools of causal inference and apply these tools in marketing and healthcare analytics applications. The module will also introduce and use recent developments from the intersection of causal inference and machine learning.

Data Management and Ethics

This module will give an overview of big data applications and technologies (including Spark etc). It will further cover all associated topics, such as data integration, data privacy, data analysis etc. At the end of the module you should be able to navigate the space of big data solutions.

Energy Analytics

By studying this module, you will gain an understanding of the energy industry and the key problems faced by participants in energy markets. You'll be exposed to the challenges arising from changes in energy systems, from increasing renewable energy and decarbonisation. Learn about the types of available data for energy markets and the way that these can be used in energy analytics. You'll also gain an understanding of the metrics and models used in the energy industry and the way that these can be used by decision makers. Discover how to communicate with business users in the energy domain and answer their questions through data analytics.

Financial Analytics

This elective looks at the problems and data sets that arise in financial industries and the models and business requirements of the finance sector. It includes hands-on practical analysis of financial industry-specific analytic data sets using the methodologies learned earlier in the programme.

Generative AI and Large Language Models

This module gives a self-contained discussion on the topic of large language models and generative AI. You will discuss the inner mechanism of training these models and study the state-of-the-art models in detail. We will cover the key modelling concepts such as attention mechanism and self-supervised training, and will also showcase the intuitions for building these modern machine learning models by visiting how the models evolve over time. While studying these models, we will take a managerial perspective and develop statistical thinking when analysing the business-related data. Our discussion will also be complemented by user cases and data sets from IT, supply chain, retail, finance etc.

Healthcare and Medical Analytics

The objective of the module is to understand how analytics is used to identify and understand critical issues in private and public healthcare organisations. We will explore some of the questions and methods that private or public organisations active in the health domain address with data. At the end of the module you will have a good understanding of the challenges specific to health and healthcare. To do so, we will consider the problems that arise in the healthcare market, and the models and business requirements for healthcare ecosystems to succeed. The module will provide a mixture of theory and hands-on practical analysis of medical, and healthcare analytic specific data sets using the methods learned earlier in the programme.

Leadership in analytics

Success as managers and analytics professionals depends on leading and motivating teams and creating value for the organisation.

In this module, you will look at analytics from a holistic business perspective. You will consider topics such as leadership and how to think like a leader, how to harness your knowledge to gain competitive advantage, and how to manage teams of analytics professionals.

Logistics and Supply-Chain Analytics

Supply chains are networks of organisations that supply and transform materials and distribute final products to customers. Supply chain management represents a great challenge as well as tremendous opportunity for most firms. If designed and managed properly, supply chains are a crucial source of competitive advantage for both manufacturing and service enterprises. This module focuses on models and analytic tools, which are useful in the design and operations of logistics and supply chains. Strong emphasis is placed on how specific tools can be used to improve the performance and/or reduce the total cost of a supply chain.

Networks: Science, Markets and Optimisation

In today’s interconnected society, networks arise in many different contexts and a vast amount of networked data is now generated. Social networks such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter generate an immense amount of data that is invaluable to marketers and businesses to obtain product feedback and do targeted marketing. This module covers algorithms, analysis and interpretation of network data and relationships. The skillset you will develop is key to an integrated marketing analytics approach.

Retail and Marketing Analytics

Analytics permeates every aspect of business decisions, especially in marketing. Indeed, today’s marketing is not just an art; it requires the use of data and quantitative approaches to support strategic decisions in rapidly evolving offline and online environments such as retail. As data availability and a variety of new technologies move the retail sector forward, retailers and manufacturers are increasingly seeking marketing managers and analysts with sufficient technical background to generate actionable insights from data and make effective data-driven decisions.

Text Analysis for Business

This module focuses on methods for quantitatively analysing text data, such as newspaper articles, social media posts, political speeches, and company product descriptions. The amount and availability of such data is growing rapidly and extracting valuable information from it is an important challenge. In recent years, numerous machine learning methods have been developed for text. This module will introduce you to these methods, but of equal importance will be to discuss their application to problems in economics and finance.

Additional admissions and entry requirements information

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

You should have a First or Upper Second Class Honours undergraduate degree with substantial quantitative components from a recognised university, or the international equivalent in a quantitative discipline such as:

  • statistics
  • econometrics
  • probability
  • calculus
  • linear algebra
  • data analytics
  • programming

Prerequisite knowledge requirements

MSc Business Analytics & AI is a highly rigorous and technically demanding programme and applicants are required to have a high level of quantitative skills. Your quantitative experience should typically cover at least two of the following: probability, statistics, advanced calculus and linear algebra.

You should use the 'Quantitative Experience Statement' on the application form to list the most advanced quantitative courses that you have taken in your academic career to date and to provide brief examples of the relevant topics covered in that programme. Alternatively, if you have gained quantitative experience through work experience, please describe this in the Quantitative Experience Statement.

You should also complete our online Maths test to determine if you are suitable for the programme.

MSc Business Analytics & AI includes modules where you will be using programming languages such as SQL, R and Python, so previous experience of using these or an interest in coding and programming will add weight to your application.

English language requirement

All home, EU and overseas applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Students who were not awarded their degree in a qualifying English-speaking country must demonstrate their proficiency by completing an approved English language qualification at the required level. Minimum test requirements for the most popular tests are:

IELTS (academic): A minimum score of 7.0 with minimum scores of 6.5 in all elements.

TOEFL iBT:

  • Tests taken before 21 January 2026: A minimum score of 100 overall with minimum scores of 22 in all elements.
  • Tests taken after 21 January 2026: We accept an overall score of 5.0 with minimum scores of 5.0 in all elements.

We will accept both scores for a period of two years.

Duolingo English Test: 125 overall with no less than 115 in any band score.

Internships and work experience

Work experience is not a requirement, although undertaking relevant internships and work placements and listing them in the 'Industrial/Professional Experience' section of your application form will add weight to your application.

We typically look for candidates with no more than three years of work experience; those with more than three years will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

GMAT or GRE

GMAT is not required for MSc Business Analytics & AI, but will add weight to your application. For the , you will need scores in the 90th percentile. Similarly, if you are taking the GRE, you will need scores in the 90th percentile. Scores are valid for five years from your appointment date.

GMAT or GRE is highly recommended for candidates with less quantitative degree backgrounds to strengthen your application for this highly competitive programme.

References

You will need to share the contact details of two academic referees or one academic and one professional referee.

Please note we cannot accept references sent from personal or free email addresses, such as Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo etc.

Essays

Essays are a vital part of your application. The questions for the MSc Business Analytics & AI programme are:

  1. Please discuss your career plans after graduation. (350 words)
  2. Why do you want to study at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Business School and how will you contribute to our community? (500 words)
  3. ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's values are Respect, Collaboration, Integrity, Innovation, and Excellence. Describe a time when you embodied one, or more, of these values and explain the impact it had. (500 words)
What we look for

MSc Business Analytics & AI is best suited to recent graduates and early career professionals wanting to progress as a leader in analytics and AI.

We are looking for well-rounded candidates with a strong quantitative background, as well as good communication and problem-solving skills. It is essential that you are able to articulate complex information in a straightforward manner. We strongly recommend those with less quantitative degree backgrounds undertake a GMAT or GRE.

We like to see a varied CV and evidence of leadership and extra-curricular activities, such as business competitions and clubs and societies, which we will look for in your personal statement.

Tell us about:

  • Your hobbies and interests: this could include being an active member of a society at university, or spending time volunteering or raising money for a cause that means a lot to you.
  • Additional languages: for many of you, English is already an additional language and it isn't uncommon for our students to be fluent in four or five languages, which can increase your employability.
  • Positive impact or achievement: this could be through representing a region or country at sports, mentoring young people or making changes to your university experiences through student leadership.
  • Career goals after graduating: you will be entering a highly competitive recruitment market and we want to see that you have already thought about the skills and experience you are going to need to succeed in your target organisation and role.
Application process

We have provided a step-by-step walkthrough on how to apply for the MSc Business Analytics & AI programme, with comprehensive instructions to ensure you complete your application successfully and meet all the essential admissions requirements.

Step one: start your application online

Visit the application portal and create an account by completing your personal details. Our online application form gives you the flexibility to save your progress and complete your application in your own time.

Step two: submit your supporting documents

You will need the following:

  • current CV (view for guidance);
  • personal statement questions (see blog for tips on how to write a personal statement);
  • complete degree transcripts with English translation if necessary (view international entry requirements);
  • contact details of two academic referees or one academic and one professional referee including their company/business email address. We recommend that one should be your current line manager or academic supervisor;
  • career planning questions, a quantitative experience statement and programming/computer software experience (if applicable);
  • English language scores if required (i.e. TOEFL, IELTS etc.);
  • GMAT/GRE is not a mandatory requirement, however, it can enhance the strength of your application.
Step three: complete your application

Once you have submitted your supporting documents you can complete your application with the £125 application processing fee. Once your application has been submitted your referees will receive a notification to provide your reference.

The Business School has a zero-tolerance policy to fraudulent applications, and we will report findings to the Home Office.

Step four: interview and admissions decision
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete an interview using our online video platform. This is the best opportunity for you to demonstrate your passion and drive, and why you want to study a Master's at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.
  • AI guidance: The purpose of the interview is to get to know more about you. We want to see how you approach problems, your motivations and wider interests. If we identify malpractice or answers provided are not genuine then this may factor negatively in the admissions committee decision. Read our blog for more advice on how you can use AI responsibly in your application.
  • Application decisions will be communicated by the corresponding decision date for the round in which you applied. Please refer to our key dates and deadlines for more information on timeframes.
  • All students will undergo a Qualification Check to ensure they meet the necessary requirements.
Step five: submit outstanding documents and pay your deposit

After receiving your offer, you will need to submit documents to satisfy your offer conditions. As part of this process, you must verify your degree award through the online Qualification Check service, using a unique link provided in your offer conditions. You can view the conditions of your offer and respond using the application portal.

You will then be required to pay a £7,000 deposit for the programme.

Admissions and entry requirements FAQs

Why do I need to complete a Quantitative Experience Statement?

All of our programmes are academically rigorous and include a quantitative component. Therefore, all candidates are expected to have a basic level of mathematics before the start of the programme. The Quantitative Experience Statement provides an opportunity to demonstrate this to the selection committee.

In the Quantitative Experience Statement, you need to list up to five of the most quantitative modules or elements of your studies to date. You should detail:

  • the main topics of study (e.g. algebra, probability etc.);
  • the level of study (e.g. high school, undergraduate degree, short course etc.).

This will allow the selection committee to have an understanding of your quantitative experience.

Please check the entry requirements for your programme of interest to ensure your background is sufficiently quantitative. For other programmes, candidates are advised to review the programme content and the pre-study modules. You should check what the numerical content of the programme includes before you apply.

Can I test my quantitative ability to see if I am suitable to apply for MSc Business Analytics & AI?

Yes, we advise you to take our online Maths test to test your quantitative ability and determine if you are suitable to apply for the programme. You should be able to get a minimum of 5 out of the 7 questions correct.

How do I submit my qualifications to be verified?

To submit a verification request, you must first create an online account with Qualification Check. You should use the unique link provided to you as part of your offer conditions.

Once you have completed the two-step registration process, you will have access to your online account. Search for the name of the institution at which you obtained your qualification(s).

Then, follow the steps to enter the required information for submission of a verification request. Your details will then be sent to that institution to be authenticated by the appropriate department. Find out more information at .

What happens after I submit a request for my qualifications to be verified?

Qualification Check's standard procedure is to contact the primary source of the information. This is the institution at which you studied. Qualification Check will regularly contact the relevant department at the institution to confirm the authenticity of your qualifications.

We understand that applications are urgent and Qualification Check makes every effort to accommodate your needs and expedite processes. Some institutions may take longer than others. But rest assured that Qualification Check is working hard to complete your verification. Find out more information at .

How many programmes can I be considered for each year?

You can apply to be considered for one programme each year. If your application is unsuccessful we will take your areas of interest and eligibility into account when considering you for alternative programmes.

When will my referees be asked to provide a reference?

As part of your application, you will be asked to provide the contact details of two referees. Your referees will be contacted by email once you have completed and submitted your application. The email will contain instructions on how they can submit your reference via our application system.

Please ensure that each reference letter that is submitted has been sent from an academic or professional email address. We cannot accept references sent from personal email addresses, such as Gmail, Hotmail, 126, 163, Sina, QQ or Yahoo.

I’ve received an email confirming that my referees have submitted my references, but this isn’t yet confirmed on my account?

Our electronic application service is provided by an external provider. Therefore, there may be a delay before the receipt of your references is confirmed on your student application account.

If you receive confirmation that your references have been received but this still isn't confirmed on your account a week after receiving the confirmation, please contact the Recruitment & Admissions team.

Will my decision date be affected by a delay in the approval of my references or missing documentation?

If you submit a complete application by the deadline, you will receive an outcome by the corresponding decision deadline. However, we may be unable to guarantee a decision by the deadline if:

  • there are delays in receiving your references;
  • the documentation required to progress your application is missing.

If the requested information is not received within five working days, we may be unable to guarantee a decision by the round deadline.

If you have received confirmation that your references have been submitted but this is not reflected in your account after a week, please contact the Recruitment & Admissions team.

Will I be invited to interview?

Yes. As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates for our MSc programmes will be invited to an interview. Interviews are conducted through our video interview platform. You can access it online to record and submit your answers.

The interview process typically takes about 20 minutes and does not require extensive preparation. It aims to supplement your written application and help you convey your suitability for your chosen Master's by answering questions about your previous experience and future aspirations.

AI guidance:

The purpose of the interview is to get to know more about you. We want to see how you approach problems, your motivations and wider interests.

If we identify malpractice or that answers provided are not genuine, then this may factor negatively into the admissions committee decision.

We have a blog you can read for more advice on how you can use AI responsibly in your application.

When will I receive a decision on my application?

We operate a staged admissions process with several deadlines throughout the year. If you submit your application within an admissions round you can usually expect a decision by the published decision deadline for that round. For more information please see 'Key dates and deadlines' table.

Please keep in mind that during busy times and/or where documents are missing from an application, this may take longer.

Why is my offer subject to checks by Central Admissions?

When an offer is submitted by the Business School, the Central Admissions team needs to make a number of final checks before it can be formally approved. These may include:

  • an additional review of an applicant’s academic background;
  • ensuring the references we have received are valid.

Until you have received confirmation of the official offer via ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s applicant portal, please do not:

  • arrange accommodation;
  • book flights;
  • decline any other offers you may be holding.

Most offers are successfully approved by Central Admissions. You will be able to see full details of your offer conditions once your official offer has been confirmed.

I've been put on a waiting list, when will I receive a final decision?

Unfortunately, we are unable to confirm when you will receive a decision on your application. We will be in touch via email as soon as there is an update. You do not need to provide any additional information unless you think it will add significant weight to your application. For example, updated transcripts, relevant internships or English language results.

My application has been unsuccessful; can I have some feedback?

Please email your programme Recruitment & Admissions team if you would like feedback on your application. Please note that whilst limited feedback can be provided, the decision of the academic selectors is final and it will not be possible for your application to be reconsidered.

Can I defer my place to next year?

If you receive an offer you can request to defer it to the following year. Requests will be considered until 23 June 2027.

Requests submitted after 23 June will only be approved in exceptional circumstances.

Please note deferrals are considered on a case-by-case basis and in order to be considered for a deferral you will need to pay the tuition fees deposit.

If you already paid your deposit for the current admissions cycle, this will be carried over to your new offer. However, our tuition fees do increase each year and you will be required to make up the difference between the old deposit and the new deposit amount.

Please note that you can only defer once.

Can you advise me on my eligibility?

We are unable to assess your eligibility before you apply. The academic selection committee needs to review a full application before any decision can be made.

Please check the specific entry requirements of the programme you are interested in studying. Please also check our international entry requirements. If you feel you meet our entry requirements you can apply online.

In addition to the guidance on our website, we hold regular information sessions online and on campus throughout the year. Here, we would be happy to discuss your suitability in more detail.

What are the international entry requirements?

We accept a wide range of international qualifications for postgraduate study at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.

We've provided general guidance in the country and region index so you can understand how qualifications awarded by public institutions overseas may satisfy our minimum academic admission requirements.

We review our requirements annually. Updates usually happen in September each year before the next academic year of entry.

If your country or region is not listed, please contact the relevant Admissions team for further information.

I don't meet the academic entry requirement but I have some work experience, will I be considered?

Most MSc programmes require at least an Upper Second Class Honours degree (or international equivalent). Work experience can add weight to an application. However, this would not replace the academic requirement, no matter how extensive the experience is. The exceptions to this are:

Please refer to the programme’s entry requirements for more detailed information.

Does the Business School offer pre-sessional English?

The Business School does not offer pre-sessional English courses. We do not accept attendance of a pre-sessional English course as a means of meeting the English language requirement.

I require a visa to study in the UK, when will I receive my CAS?

We will start to issue CAS numbers from April. The details of your CAS will appear on your My ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ record after you have met all the conditions of your offer. Please note that you will need to upload a scanned copy of the photo page of your passport and current visa (if you have recently completed a degree in the UK), before your CAS can be issued. Please upload these documents to the 'Passport/visa' section of your My ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ account.

Once your CAS is ready, you will receive an email confirming that it has been uploaded onto your My ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ account. If you log into My ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ you will be able to find your CAS number and the details that have been included in your CAS.

Please note that we cannot provide you with a CAS if you have outstanding conditions on your offer. Please ensure that you allow enough time to meet your conditions and apply for a visa before the start date of your programme of study.

What do I need for my visa appointment?

Your CAS number holds information about the programme you will study and if you have paid any fees. You will not need a formal letter from ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ confirming your offer status for your visa appointment.

For more information about what you will need, see the .

If you need any advice about your visa please contact the International Student Support team. Most information can be found on the International Student Support website.

How do I extend my visa to undertake an Extended Work Placement?

If you require a visa to study on the programme, you will be initially granted a 12 month student visa upon entry (with an additional four months post study). If you decided to extend the programme to 16 months, you will be eligible to apply for a student visa extension (please note additional costs apply). This would enable you to apply for the Graduate Worker Visa once your degree is confirmed.
