The Centre for Urban Health and Healthcare brings together global experts and practitioners to identify and address the unique challenges of urban health.
Our mission
We exist because:
- Global health is increasingly determined by cities.
- Nearly half of the world’s population lives in cities and the number is rising rapidly.
- Cities are where many health risks – and their solutions – are concentrated.
- Cities have the tools for change, from transport and health to housing and planning.
- Health systems alone cannot solve today’s biggest health challenges.
Our challenges
The challenges we tackle range from chronic disease, poor air quality and inadequate housing to unequal access to care and the impacts of climate change.
Our purpose
To improve health in cities, we need an approach that connects healthcare with the everyday factors that affect our health, and that brings together key stakeholders to identify and implement solutions. We are that enabler.
