Data Science ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ is a university-wide hub for data science research, teaching, and outreach, and the home of ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s flagship Data Observatory facility.
The DSI hosts researchers and students conducting their own academic research on a range of topics in areas such as Biomedical Informatics, Data Learning, Image Informatics, Data Visualisation, AI System Architectures, and the Future of Work. The unifying theme of our work is the pursuit of innovations for building, exploring, and exploiting modern data sets that is, large data sets created from disparate sources and types of data through novel curation, transformation, machine learning techniques, and theoretical and practical insights from problem domains.
Data Science at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ began with the Data Science Institute, originally established as part of the Global Institutes of ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. We now sit as part of the Research and Enterprise Office and by working closely with the Schools of Convergence Science, Data Science ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ will help place good data and data science at the core of ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s Science for Humanity strategy, supporting researchers across all disciplines.
At Data Science ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, we believe that data science empowers AI across disciplines, and we hope our new place at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ reflects that.
Our Objectives
The DSI aims to enhance ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's excellence in data-driven research across its faculties by fulfilling the following objectives:
- To act as a focal point for coordinating data science research at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ College through cross-disciplinary collaboration. 
- To train and educate the new generation of data scientists.
- To develop data management and analysis technologies and services that support research. 
- °Õ´Ç translate data science into innovation collaborating with partners in industry and the public sector, and to support commercialisation.
- °Õ´Ç promote data science and its applications outside academia and to influence policy makers.
