Who are we?

The Legal & Regulatory Affairs Team is responsible for the provision of legal advice and support to ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ together with providing assurance that key regulatory obligations are being met. The team delivers advice on all areas of university business, routinely advising on c.30 substantive areas of law, and sources specialist external advice for ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ as needed.

Our Legal & Regulatory Affairs Team has a broad range of experience and technical expertise. Having this in-house capability brings many direct and indirect benefits to ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.  The primary objectives of the Legal & Regulatory Affairs Team are to:

  • Provide high quality pragmatic legal advice across ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s areas of operation 
  • Support operational effectiveness across ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ through responsive and timely provision of advice
  • Engage with colleagues in the development of policies, procedures and strategic objectives to ensure they are legally robust and that legal risks are mitigated 
  • Serve as the central point of contact for legal inquiries within the University
  • Assist in identifying, managing and reducing ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s ongoing legal risks
  • Deliver training and updates on legal matters to staff
  • Source specialist external legal support when required, ensuring value for money for ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ

The team ensures that ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ operates within the framework of applicable laws and regulations, supporting its mission of excellence in research, education and innovation while minimising legal risks.
