Dear Colleague,

I’m writing to update you on ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s Council, which is our governing body.

You may be aware of recent reports in the media of allegations made against the Chair of ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s Council, John Allan. Since these reports surfaced, I have discussed them with John, the University Management Board and Heads of Departments. They were then formally discussed by Council at its meeting on Friday 12 May, at which feedback from the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ community was reflected.

At this Council meeting, it was noted that none of these allegations relate to his role at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, no complaints had been received by ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and that John vigorously denies the allegations. Nevertheless, John decided that in the broader best interests of the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ community, he would step back from his ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ activities until the matter is resolved. Council, which is responsible for appointing its Chair, will keep the matter under review. The Deputy Chair of Council, John Cullen, has agreed to step in during this period.

John Allan’s term as Chair runs until 31 December this year and a search for the next Chair of Council has begun.

The ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ values of respect, collaboration, excellence, innovation and integrity have been a central theme of the ongoing conversation on our Strategy, and they will rightly remain at the heart of everything we do.

Best wishes,

Hugh
