Relevant news from the lab

October 2026

  • Happy to announce that Livia Del Bo is joining our lab for her first project within the Molecular Plant and Microbial Sciences Mres program. She will look into hormone redistribution in electrostimulated Arabidopsis calli.

June 2026

  • We are excited to announce that Goodnews Nwosu, currently a Master's student in Oxford, will join our lab in October for a 1+3 years PhD project "Transparent 3D-printed soil: biophysics and metabolomics of root-soil interactions" generously supported by Syngenta (see below in April 2026 the news about the studentship). We truly look forward to this new exciting start.

April 2026

  • Our former (and brilliant) Mres student Sophie Cooke has secured a prestigious departmental PhD Scholarship to continue Maddalena Salvalaio's work on root electrotropism. Sophie will start in October 2026, and we just can't wait to have her back!
  • We thank Syngenta to support a Mres+PhD studentship on a project in collaboration with , , and . The project will look at real soil structure and mimic it with 3D printing technology. We are now actively recruting for a start in October 2026!

March 2026

  • Happy to announce that our student Owen Iredale-Ward succesfully passed his PhD viva, brilliantly concluding his flawaless PhD path. We are now working together on his first-author manuscropt to be submitted soon. Congratulations Owen, and all the best of luck for your future adventures!
  • We welcome Kyle Chu as a MRes student in our lab, to work on a quantitative project looking at the interaction between gravitropism and hydrotropism in Arabidopsis roots.

February 2026

  • We welcome Flinn Laslet as a Mres student shared with the laboratory of Claudia Contini. He will work on a bold and exciting project titled "Engineering Biohybrid Plant Protoplasts".
