Narinder Singh Kapany (1926–2020), by Keith Holmes, 2023. A founder of fibre optic communications, his work started with PhD studies in ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Department of Physics in the early 1950s.
Letitia Chitty (1897–1982), by Keith Holmes, 2023. A pioneer in ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Department of Civil Engineering from 1934 to 1962, her mathematical analysis of structural stresses won many professional prizes and accolades.
University Challenge champions
A team of students has won this year's University Challenge competition, the fifth ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ team to do so – putting ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ at the top of the BBC quiz tournament's league table of winners. (Picture © BBC)
